Richard Carruthers

Richard studied art at Hammersmith College of Art in the 1960’s, on leaving college he taught as a visiting lecturer at Guildford School of Art.

In 1968 Richard decided that he wanted to broaden his experience and moved to Milan, in Northern Italy, where he worked in an industrial Design studio specialising in furniture and lighting design for 3 years.

On returning to London, Richard decided to further his career in furniture design so he enrolled, as a  mature student, at London College of Furniture, studying furniture production and design.

He worked for several furniture companies as a freelance and staff designer and ultimately became Design Director for Parker Knoll Furniture.

On retiring from professional industrial design, he returned to his first love of painting and drawing and set up his painting studio, at his home in North Stoke near Goring on Thames.

He has worked principally in watercolour but recently included oils in his chosen materials.

His inspiration comes from the wonderful landscapes in the Thames Valley.

He has carried out many commissions specialising in landscapes for private clients
